The clinic also specialises in the treatment of sports injuries of any nature: muscle tears and tension, cartilage damage, ligament sprains and tendinitis.

Physiotherapy Treatment Techniques

Physiotherapy uses a combination of evidence based therapeutic techniques to aid recovery from pain and/or injury:

Manual repetitive movements applied to stiff and painful joints in order to increase movement and ease pain.

High velocity manual movements to release joints and allow pain free movement.

Therapeutic Ultrasound
Sound waves that penetrate deep into the tissues to promote healing, increase blood flow and speed up recovery.

Interferential Therapy
An electrotherapy treatment to ease pain, promote healing, reduce swelling and release muscle spasm.

Taping to joints and muscles to aid recovery and protect structures while they heal.

Exercise Therapy and Rehabilitation
Individually devised exercise plans to help in your recovery and return you to your pre-injury state if not better!

Acupuncture Treatment

Acupuncture can be used to treat a wide variety of problems such as:

  • Back and neck pain
  • Nerve pain
  • Headaches and Migraines
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Rheumatoid arthritis
  • Tennis and golfers elbow
  • Stress and anxiety
  • Sleep problems
  • Skin disorders
  • Fertility issues

Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese medicine which uses small, sterile needles to access points on meridians (energy channels), which flow around the body. The Chinese believe that the energy Chi, helps the body to heal and that injury, pain & disease are as a result of blocked or excessive energy in the channels. By releasing this “Chi” energy, through acupuncture, the body is free to heal.

The Western view of acupuncture relates to the release of natural chemicals in the brain which stimulate pain relief and the body’s natural healing processes. It also stimulates an increase in blood flow to the affected area which promotes healing. There have been many medical studies done on acupuncture which show it can be effective. It has been shown to be highly effective in the management of osteoarthritis, helping with relief of pain and promotion of healing. It is not painful, all you will feel is a slight pin prick and possibly an achy sensation.

Acupuncture can be used to help treat a wide variety of problems from acute tennis elbow to chronic back pain. It can also be effective in increasing the chances of getting pregnant whilst undergoing any form of fertility treatment, such as IVF.

Massage Therapy

Therapeutic Massage

Therapeutic massage is used to promote the healing of damaged tissue; muscle, tendon, ligaments or cartilage. Deep frictions can be used to prevent the build up of scar tissue and help the body to heal in the correct way. Effleurage can be used to help remove swelling and increase circulation. Deep trigger pointing can release tension spots in muscles which are in spasm.

Sports Massage

Before exercise sports massage can facilitate blood flow, warm up the muscles and increase flexibility thereby helping to prevent injury. After exercise this type of massage can help rid the muscle of lactic acid which accumulates during exercise and can lead to muscle soreness. Different techniques are used depending on the circumstances.
